Glendronach

One of the oldest licenced distilleries in Scotland, Glendronach was founded by James Allardice in 1826 on the Boynsmill estate. Found in the Forgue valley in Aberdeenshire is named GlenDronach meaning ‘Valley of the Brambles’. It has a history of enterprising owners from the flamboyant James Allardice who founded the distillery, to the ambitious Walter Scott. Although times have moved on the processes used to create the GlenDronach have remained largely unchanged. The distillery uses the same production process it did in 1826, but their hallmark is their pioneership of sherry cask maturation. The distillery has been home to a parliament of rooks who try to nest in the warehouses, distillery legend says that as long as thes birds remain, the whisky will prosper. Each year a handful of individual casks are selected to be bottled as a limited release after a long maturation process.
