Ardbeg distillery presents Ardbeg Hypernova HN2022 Committee 51.0%, released in 2022. There were 3000 bottles in this release. This whisky has a unique nose of strong, fruity-sweet smoky note, the lemon peel, red apples, melon water and a touch of strawberry jam. very fresh and light, almost floating. although intense, the smoky note is a pleasant companion to the fruit, complimented by powerful start with smoked lemon slices, oranges, stalked wood, pepper and a good portion of chili. in fact, it is “spicy”, without the sharpness is caused by any kind of alcohol note. dry from the beginning. aged, dried kelp, tar paper. less ashy-cold smoke, as it is usually used at ardbeg, it is more like a warm campfire with a rich peat content. very nice interplay between the fruits on the one hand and the smoke as well as the sharpness / spice on the palate, and topped off by a medium length, dry, smokeyand sweet  finish.

Ardbeg Hypernova HN2022 Committee 51.0%

Ardbeg

The distillery can be found in a small cove on the south coast of Islay. It was in 1815 that the distillery was established and founded by John McDougal. Despite going on to sell in 1838, Ardbeg continued to be ran by John’s children. In 1853 Ardbeg boasted the first female distiller’s in Scotland after the death of Alexander, their elder brother. The family also went on to buy back the distillery in 1922 remaining at the helm until 1977. Following financial difficulties the distillery had a hiatus from 1981 to 1989, when distillation resumed it was on a much smaller scale. The distillery was sold again in 1997 to Glenmorangie Co. and restored to its former grandeur and as we know it today. Ardbeg has gone on to win many awards and enjoys releasing bottles to celebrate contemporary events. In 2021 a new stillhouse is completed doubling capacity. They are open year round in their visitor centre, bar and tours (Ardbeg 2023).
