Ardbeg distillery presents Ardbeg Heavy Vapours Committee Exclusive 50.2%, released in 2022. There were an unknown number of bottles in this release.
This whisky has a unique nose of smoke arising with a cloying sweetness. intense pungent and aromatic, a distinctive farmyard scent drifts along with a crunchy aroma-like creostote or tarry rope. a splash of water disturbs the vapours and dark chocolate cream billows, laced with ribbon of artichoke, complimented by arbeg’s untamed dark flavours and notes have risen. a burst of bitterness surges, distrubing ashy coal dust and casting a haze cardomom, peppermint and coffee grits. clouds of dark chocolate and mentholic eucalyptus roll in, obscuring the fruit and floral notes usual found at the heart of ardbeg. whisps of aniseed twists, cinnamon balls and antisceptic lozenges float on the palate, and topped off by a long and bold after taste with an anesthetising sensation to finish.

Ardbeg
The distillery can be found in a small cove on the south coast of Islay. It was in 1815 that the distillery was established and founded by John McDougal. Despite going on to sell in 1838, Ardbeg continued to be ran by John’s children. In 1853 Ardbeg boasted the first female distiller’s in Scotland after the death of Alexander, their elder brother. The family also went on to buy back the distillery in 1922 remaining at the helm until 1977. Following financial difficulties the distillery had a hiatus from 1981 to 1989, when distillation resumed it was on a much smaller scale. The distillery was sold again in 1997 to Glenmorangie Co. and restored to its former grandeur and as we know it today. Ardbeg has gone on to win many awards and enjoys releasing bottles to celebrate contemporary events. In 2021 a new stillhouse is completed doubling capacity. They are open year round in their visitor centre, bar and tours (Ardbeg 2023).
