Islands

Although not formally a region as defined in the Scotch Whisky Regulations of 2009. The distilleries are on the peripheral island surrounding Scotland except for the Isle of Islay. Most distilleries are extremely varied with few similarities but generally have peated undertones from using peat which is readily and historically used in the drying and distillation process.

The whiskies tend to be peated, full-bodied malts as a result from the windswept, rugged maritime locations. There have been some additional distilleries added on different islands.
