Clynelish Distillery
Situated in Brora, on the east coast of the North Highlands of Scotland. Sitting directly adjacent to the original Clynelish distillery (subsequently becoming Brora distillery). The distillery we know today as Clynelish, was newly built and began production in 1969 following a boom in production needs. Brora distillery (originally known as Clynelish) was built in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford to provide a market for barley grown by her tenants and local jobs. The two distilleries ran as Clynelish A and Clynelish B until 1969 and Clynelish A became known as Brora distillery until production was halted in 1983. Since 1969 Clynelish as we know it today has been as such with Brora remaining a sister but separate operation. Brora distillery lay empty from the 80s until recent extensive renovation between 2017 and 2021 and recommencement of production, with the first new product expected in 2031. Clynelish uses water piped down from the Clynemilton Burn. Clynelish also houses a visitor centre which is now closed.
