Dalwhinnie Distillery
“Located in the village of Dalwhinnie, Inverness-shire in the Scottish Highlands.
Built in 1897 under the nomer ‘Strathspey’ before soon changing to Dalwhinnie to distinguish from themselves from the region. Dalwhinnie is currently the highest and coldest distillery in the country. Using water from Lochan na Doire-uaine (Loch of the green thicket) 2000 feet up in the Drumochter hills. Dalwhinnie’s thrive on extreme conditions; such as a fire in 1934 and the annual harsh bitter winters creating a liquid as sweet and accessible as its highland home.
Dalwhinnie – or “Plain of Meetings” in Gaelic – is named for its location at a junction of old cattle droving routes between two mountain ranges. The distillery offers tastings, tours and has a visitor centre (Diageo, 2024).
