Tamdhu (Tam-Doo) is situated at Knockando in Speyside Scotland. It boasts operating for over 125 years from 1897 to 2022. Tamdhu was founded by group of like-minded entrepreneurs, with a shared ambition to create the finest whisky raising the equivalent to todays £20 million achieve their goal. They enlisted distillery architect and engineer Charles C Doig, selected a prime location on the river Spey and local trainline and imported the finest ex sherry casks from Spain ready to begin production. 1949 saw the innovation and introduction of saladin boxes to mechanise the barley turning process thus increasing the maltings output. The whisky boom of the 1970s brought Tamdhu increased demand and popularity In 2010 however the Edrington Group closed the Tamdhu distillery. Just 2 years later in 2012 it was bought and re-opened by Ian Macleod distillers. They reinstated Tamdhu to its former glory. The family run Ian Macleod remain at the helm today. Their distinctive bottle is a nod to the fashionable dress of the founders and their wifes at the time, The top representing a smart suit of a man and the bottom of their wives beautiful dresses. In 2022 Tamdhu celebrated 125 years of whisky excellence, a small visitor centre can be found in the old Dalbeallie Railway station, now disused as the Victorian railway was dismantled.
