Scapa Distillery

The name Scapa comes from the Norse word meaning ‘boat’. Norse is an old Viking language and the traditional language spoken in our island home of Orkney, off the north coast of Scotland. Scapa is an island single malt forged by the extreme elements of Orkney. ​The distillery itself, a haven amidst the untamed natural beauty and raw elements of the North Sea. Rain fills our lochs and water from the Orquil Springs is used for the mashing process. A long fermentation, inspired by unhurried life on the islands, and distillation in our unique Lomond still work together to create this unique, layered tropical single malt. Matured in Ex-American Oak casks that are stored in warehouses in Orkney, we ensure that the spirit of Orkney is captured in each drop. Founded in 1885 overlooking the calm historic “Scapa Flow”, Scapa is one of the northern most distilleries in Scotland, located at 58.9632° N, 2.9853° W in the Orkney Islands. Scapa distillery is a peaceful haven amidst untamed natural island beauty and the North Sea. Inspired by its tranquil surroundings, the deliberately unhurried making process of our manually operated distillery allows our makers to capture the soul of Orkney in every drop of whisky.​
