Benrinnes Distillery.

Benrinnes is found on the lower slopes of Speyside’s Ben Rinnes hill. Founded in 1826 by Peter McKenzie, the original distillery at Whitehouse farm succumbed to a devasting flood in 1829. A second and the current side was established by John Innes. Tragedy strikes again in 1896 with a significant fire, resulting in significant renovation.  The distillery changes hands in 1834,1864 and finally 1922 and is finally acquired by DCL (now known as Diageo) in 1925. 1955 saw further renovation and 1966 there was a doubling of stills to increase capacity. 1991 saw Benrinnes’ first official bottling with their 15 year old ‘Flora and Fauna’. Innovative partial triple distillation  was adopted in 1974 however, this was finally abandoned in 2007 in favour of traditional double distillation. Today the distillery produces whisky predominantly for blends and is not open for visitors.
