Benromach distillery presents Benromach 2013 Vintage Cask Strength Batch 1 59.7%, released in 2023. There were an unknown number of bottles in this release.
This whisky has a unique nose of rich stewed fruit with raspberries. vanilla pod and red apple give way to forest fruits, complimented by toasted hazelnuts combined with clove and ginger spice. zesty orange and milk chocolate lead to brown sugar on the palate, and topped off by a full and long with toasted oak and a hint of smoke finish.
The first Benromach distillery was opened in 1898 and situated in Forres, Speyside, Scotland. It began doing single cask malt whiskies in different distilleries in 1915 when everyone else was doing blended whisky. In 1993 the distillery was acquired by the Urquhart family (otherwise known as Gordon & MacPhail) and remains one of 3 distilleries in this family business. The Urquhart’s are keen to revive the lost Speyside style using malted barley which gives a whisper of peat smoke. This process, over a century old, remains from when malting in Speyside would have had fires topped up with peat when coal was running low, providing a distinct character. Every cask is filled by hand and make their whisky by smell, sound and touch. Benromach is open year round for tours and tastings via their visitor centre.
