This whisky has a unique nose of a pungent burst of smoked cream, peppermint and toffee with ardbeg’s classic fennel and pine resin. distant early bonfires mix with herbal and fruity (banana and tropcial) notes, along with frgarant candle wax, complimented by an extremely vibrant, hot peppery mouth feel leads to a burst of sherberty lemon sweetness (candied apples, pears and orange), hints of carbolic soap and tar, more creamy toffee andiseed and chilli pepper on the palate, and topped off by a a long, mellow lingering after taste with lots of cream, fudge and delicate antiseptic notes. an elegant smoothing style of arbeg finish.

Ardbeg
The distillery can be found in a small cove on the south coast of Islay. It was in 1815 that the distillery was established and founded by John McDougal. Despite going on to sell in 1838, Ardbeg continued to be ran by John’s children. In 1853 Ardbeg boasted the first female distiller’s in Scotland after the death of Alexander, their elder brother. The family also went on to buy back the distillery in 1922 remaining at the helm until 1977. Following financial difficulties the distillery had a hiatus from 1981 to 1989, when distillation resumed it was on a much smaller scale. The distillery was sold again in 1997 to Glenmorangie Co. and restored to its former grandeur and as we know it today. Ardbeg has gone on to win many awards and enjoys releasing bottles to celebrate contemporary events. In 2021 a new stillhouse is completed doubling capacity. They are open year round in their visitor centre, bar and tours (Ardbeg 2023).
