Ardbeg 23 year old Vintage Y2K 2024 46%

£680.00

Ardbeg distillery presents Ardbeg 23 year old Vitaage Y2K 2004 46%, released in 2024. There were an unknown number of bottles in this release.

This whisky has a unique nose of sweet and fragrant herbs, with a subtle, distant perfumed smokiness. a closer inspection reveals a quirky, zesty note like lemon balsam, along with a suggestion of linseed oil and candied walnuts. with a splash of water, the fragrance intensifies, with a note of heather honey, a touch of creosote and the tiniest hint of tent canvas, complimented by a fizzy and sherbet-like texture, with a vibrant effervescence on the tongue, the initial flavour is intensely sweet, with a burst of aniseed, toffee, digestive biscuits, peppermint, menthol, tar and coffee grounds, sooty and tarry flavours then build on the palate, and topped off by a long, lingering aftertaste reveals antiseptic lozenges, bitter orange peel and oak tannin finish.

Ardbeg

The distillery can be found in a small cove on the south coast of Islay. It was in 1815 that the distillery was established and founded by John McDougal. Despite going on to sell in 1838, Ardbeg continued to be ran by John’s children. In 1853 Ardbeg boasted the first female distiller’s in Scotland after the death of Alexander, their elder brother. The family also went on to buy back the distillery in 1922 remaining at the helm until 1977. Following financial difficulties the distillery had a hiatus from 1981 to 1989, when distillation resumed it was on a much smaller scale. The distillery was sold again in 1997 to Glenmorangie Co. and restored to its former grandeur and as we know it today. Ardbeg has gone on to win many awards and enjoys releasing bottles to celebrate contemporary events. In 2021 a new stillhouse is completed doubling capacity. They are open year round in their visitor centre, bar and tours (Ardbeg 2023).
